Great article, wel...I like the Common Sense aspect. Great article, well written. I notice you didn't comment about the importance of spelling your materials properly in descriptions, titles and tags. Care to comment?
------------------------

Spelling and grammar are definitely important - people, for better or worse, judge others by their perceived level of intellect - and we base how smart we think others are by how well they speak, how clearly they get their ideas across, and, especially in many parts of American culture, by how well people use the English language.

I find that spelling tends to be most important in the title and description (and grammar in the description as well). In the tags, sometimes misspellings can be a good friend.

It seems counter-intuitive to intentionally misspell something - but think about how many people commonly misspell certain words, and you'll begin to realize why.

The default search is by title and tag - and if someone mistypes a word in their search - they are more likely to find you if you include common related misspellings or alternate spellings.

Say you are selling a gray cardigan. You could title it "Gray Cashmere Cardigan" and tag it "grey" "cashmeer" "cardigen"... because the former is an alternate spelling, and the latter 2 are common misspellings.

Overall, I definitely recommend using spell check (firefox has one built in) when creating your listings (and double checking materials spelling as well)... but it can't hurt to put common misspellings to work for you.

~amyHeathen's Hearthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13139333196574368691noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4019901453065101419.post-75020431627446057162009-08-16T19:42:06.189-04:002009-08-16T19:42:06.189-04:00I like the Common Sense aspect. I never really thought about it as paying rent, but it's true. The kids area is VERY competitive; as soon as I list, it's pushed back to page 5 and more! How the heck can anyone see your products that way? This is my only job, and I'll have to take more time to promote my business, and not rely on etsy promotions.Yasmeenhttp://yasmeenscollection.etsy.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4019901453065101419.post-38142071346552390562009-06-11T16:46:38.688-04:002009-06-11T16:46:38.688-04:00Thankyou so much for giving my the lik to this!
